Salem Railway Division collects ₹6.18 crore as fine from offenders in three months

Members of ticket checking squads of Salem Railway Division collected ₹6.18 crore from offenders in last three months from April to June 2025.

The squads conduct regular checks on board trains and on railway premises to detect various malpractices including travelling without ticket, irregular travel and unbooked luggage, and levy penalty accordingly.

During April-June, 2025, the ticket checking squads of Salem Division detected 43,524 cases of ticketless travel and collected an amount of ₹3.79 crore as penalty from the offenders, an increase of 1.6% in cases detected and 4.9% in amount collected as penalty as compared with the corresponding period last year. During April-June 2024, the Division had detected 42,823 cases of ticketless travel and had collected an amount of ₹3.62 crore as penalty.

Moreover, 40,563 cases of irregular travel were also found during April-June, 2025 and ₹2.37 crore was collected as penalty from passengers, marking an increase of 10.8% in cases detected and 5.5% in amount collected as penalty as against the same period last year. During April-June 2024, the Division had detected 36,619 cases of irregular travel and had collected an amount of ₹2.25 crore as penalty.

Similarly, 208 cases of unbooked luggage/carrying luggage exceeding the permitted quantity were detected. The amount levied as penalty for these cases of unbooked luggage was ₹1.04 lakh. This is an increase of 150.6% in cases detected and 128.9% in amount collected as penalty as compared with the same period last year.
