GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg inaugurated a two-day photo exhibition organised by the Vizag Photo Journalists’ Association on the occasion of World Photography Day at the Visakha Museum on Beach Road here on Tuesday.
The Commissioner went around the exhibition, keenly observing the photographs on display, which highlighted diverse themes such as city development, civic challenges, and notable achievements over the past year. He even clicked a few of the pictures on his mobile phone. Mr. Garg suggested that from next year, the photographs could also be displayed digitally on a screen, enabling more visitors to view them. He assured the association of GVMC’s support in this endeavour and urged the public to visit the museum during the expo. GVMC Zone-3 Commissioner Siva Prasad also addressed the gathering.
On the occasion, photojournalists who won awards at recent competitions in Vijayawada were felicitated by the GVMC Commissioner. Association president Y. Ramakrishna presided, while secretary Md. Nawaz, treasurer A. Sarat Kumar, and other members took part. The association members also felicitated Mr. Garg.
Meanwhile, World Photography Day celebrations were also held at Sri Prakash Vidya Niketan, where renowned portrait, fashion, and glamour photographer B.K. Agarwal, professional photographer and IIT-Madras alumnus Ashok Kandimalla, cinematographer S. Sri Hari Varma, and Nivedita Ganguly, Senior Assistant Editor of The Hindu, participated as guests.
Mr. Agarwal spoke about the evolution of photography — from black and white to colour to digital — and the emerging influence of AI in the field.
Separately, the Waltair Photographic Society launched a two-day photo exhibition at the Hindi Department of Andhra University, inaugurated by Dr. G.A. Rama Raju of Krishna IVF Centre on Tuesday. Senior journalists and photojournalists were felicitated on the occasion.
