Sri Nrusimhashrama Swamiji of Balekudru Sri Mutt in Hangarakatte, Udupi district, passed away at the age of 55 after a prolonged illness on Friday.
He was on dialysis and developed complications while he was travelling to get the procedure done, from the mutt to Udupi. He died at a hospital in Udupi later, according to mutt officials.
Following the Advaitha philosophy, the mutt adopted the Rishi culture, with seers’ names ending in ‘Ashrama’. The late Nrusimhashrama Swamiji succeeded Shankarashrama Swamiji in 2006. He was initiated into Sanyasa by Sri Narayanashrama Swamiji of Hebbur Mutt under the guidance of the Sringeri Shankaracharyas.
Nrusimhashrama Swamiji, besides reclaiming farmlands belonging to mutts that others had taken over, had also initiated the process of developing the Kshetra, located close to the estuary of the rivers Swarna and Seetha. He had also started cultivating about 5 acres of the mutt land.
Following prolonged illness, the seer had anointed Sri Vasudevashrama Swamiji as his successor in 2024.
Nrusimhashrama Swamiji’s mortal remains were kept at the mutt for the devotees to have darshan till Friday evening, and later, the Samadhi (last rite) was performed.
