Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Saturday (July 5, 2025) said that Tamil Nadu will witness a coalition government after the 2026 Assembly elections.

“We are a party that is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). If it is an NDA government, it will be a coalition cabinet,” he told reporters in Bhavani. Responding to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s claim that there is no possibility of a coalition government in the State, Mr. Dhinakaran said the prevailing political and administrative conditions make coalition rule both necessary and inevitable.

He accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of projecting a false image of peace in the State, while the police acted as a “force of suppression.” Referring to the recent custodial death of B. Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga, he said public trust in the police has collapsed. “The very force meant to protect the people has now become a source of fear. Instead of accepting responsibility, the Chief Minister merely said ‘sorry’ and moved on,” he said.

He also criticised Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan for not demanding the arrest of those responsible for Ajith Kumar’s death, despite widespread allegations of political interference.

Mr. Dhinakaran further charged that governance was monopolised by a single family, resulting in unrest among government employees, farmers, and various other sections. “The DMK has failed to fulfil its election promises and is now relying on alliances to retain power,” he said.

Citing CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam’s earlier statement that the alliance would face elections only if the promises made earlier are fulfilled, Mr. Dhinakaran questioned how the alliance could now claim those promises had been met.
