In anticipation of a large turnout for the Aadi Perukku festival on Sunday, the Tiruchi Corporation has made elaborate arrangements at the Amma Mandapam bathing ghat in Srirangam to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for devotees taking a holy dip in the Cauvery and performing rituals.
The civic body had engaged its workers in sprucing up the bathing ghats. Around 100 additional sanitation workers were deployed to maintain cleanliness in and around the ghat. The workers would be stationed round the clock to clear garbage and waste material.
Community toilets had been cleaned, and workers instructed to check and prevent open defecation. As a precautionary measure, drinking water had been chlorinated to ensure safe consumption by the large number of pilgrims visiting the place.
To meet medical emergency, three medical camps will be set up in the vicinity, staffed by a team of eight health workers. The camps will provide first aid and health support during the event. A special enforcement team has been formed to prevent the sale and use of tobacco and banned items in the area.
