Police have registered a suo motu case under Arms Act against Santosh Jarkiholi, son of BJP MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, for opening fire in the air during the annual fair of Laxmi temple in Gokak on July 5.

Santosh Jarkiholi, covered in yellow vermilion, was standing in the crowd in the fair. He used a double-barrel gun to open fire in the air while his friends and supporters cheered, police said.
A video clip of the incident was shared widely on social media.
A case has been registered in Gokak police station.
