Porkodi Armstrong, wife of slain Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP), Tamil Nadu leader K Armstrong, launched a new political party on Saturday- on the first death anniversary of her husband. This also follows her removal as BSP’s Tamil Nadu coordinator, earlier this year.
The first death anniversary was held under tight security and was attended by over 1,000 supporters in Pothur in Thiruvallur district. They took out a peace march to the memorial of late Armstrong. Kamaltai Gavai, mother of Chief Justice of India B.R.Gavai also participated in the event.
Ms. Porkodi launched the party named Tamil Maanila Bahujan Samaj among supporters at the memorial.
Political party leaders including BJP TN president Nainar Nagendran, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss also paid their respects to the deceased BSP leader at the memorial.
It may be recalled that K Armstrong, 52, was hacked to death by a gang on July 5, 2024, near his under-construction house in Perambur, Chennai. The murder sent shockwaves across Tamil Nadu. So far, 27 people have been arrested, and the case is in trial stage.
