Three air conditioner (AC) repair workers died of possible asphyxiation while a fourth is undergoing treatment after purportedly inhaling leaked gas from AC cylinders stored inside their locked one-room house in south Delhi’s Dakshinpuri on Saturday (July 5, 2025), the police said.
The incident came to light when the police received a PCR call from a man who reported that his brother was not answering calls and no one was opening the door to the apartment. “When our team broke open the door, they found four men lying unconscious in the first-floor, one-room house,” a senior officer said.
All four were rushed to Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS Trauma Centre. Three of them were declared dead, while the fourth, identified as Haseeb, is receiving treatment, the officer added. The police identified the three deceased as Imran alias Salman, 30, Mohsin, 20, and Kapil alias Ankit Rastogi, 18 — all residents of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
“A few of the cylinders were leaking, and since the door and windows were closed, the men likely died because of asphyxiation. All the cylinders have been seized by a forensic team,” said another officer.
The families of the deceased told the police that they were under financial strain and had come to Delhi to seek better opportunities.
A probe has been launched to determine the exact cause of death. The one-room house served as a living space and informal workshop, filled with AC parts, tools, and repair kits, leaving minimal space for movement, said the police, adding that there were no signs of forced entry in the house.
