Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment P.K. Sekar Babu has said the 50-odd hostellers of Sri Parasakthi College for Women, Courtallam, will be served free meals from August onwards.

During an informal chat with the reporters, Mr. Sekar Babu after visiting the college being administered by the HR and CE Department on Monday evening, said the Principal of the college had been asked to submit before July 25 a detailed report on the infrastructure to be created for ensuring better education to the students, mostly from poor families.

Once the report was obtained, due action would be taken for creating more infrastructure, including buildings and filling-up of vacancies.

When the Minister was told about the necessity for constructing a mess, Mr. Sekar Babu asked the HR and CE officials to immediately prepare the report for the mess hall.

“The college will soon have the modern mess. Above all, the 50-odd hostellers of Sri Parasakthi College will be served free meals from August onwards. Since these students are from poor families, we will serve them free food,” he said.

He said the vacancies in the HR and CE temples and the administrative section were being filled-up in a phased manner. While 1,400 appointments were made in the temples based on the funds available in these temples, 640 were recruited through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. More than 240 timely promotions had been given and 2 Additional Joint Commissioners appointed to make temple administration effective.

“When the salary bill exceeds 25% of the temple funds, it is being borne by the government after getting due permission,” Mr. Sekar Babu said.

When asked about the alleged stopping of TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai from reaching the terrace to have darshan of Vallakottai Murugan Temple consecration held on Monday, the Minister replied that he, who was initially stopped by mistake, was allowed immediately to the reach the terrace.

“As I spoke to him and others, he was allowed to reach the terrace,” Mr. Sekar Babu said.
