A medical officer at a government hospital in Srivilliputtur, Ramesh Babu, 50, suffered multiple stab injuries when a person named N. Pandiganesh, 31, allegedly attacked him with a knife on Monday (July 7, 2025) night.
Dr. Ramesh has been admitted to the government hospital, while Srivilliputtur Town police have arrested the assailant.
The police said the incident occurred outside the doctor’s private clinic on New Street in Koonankulam when he stepped out to return home at around 9 p.m.
Pandiganesh, a resident of Araichipatti Street, who was waiting outside, suddenly attacked him with the knife, according to the police.
He allegedly stabbed him multiple times, and the doctor sustained bleeding injuries to his abdomen, back, and thigh.
The police said the accused shouted at the doctor over a 2019 incident at the government hospital in Srivilliputtur. The accused was reportedly directed by a local court that year to perform social service at the hospital.
Dr. Ramesh had scolded the accused then for making derogatory comments against fellow doctors.
Based on the doctor’s complaint, the Srivilliputtur Town police have booked Pandiganesh for attempt to murder, using abusive language, and criminal intimidation.
