Water users from across the Krishna Delta region offered a Jala Harathi to the Godavari at Rangannagudem village on Tuesday, celebrating the release of water through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Hailing the decision of the government, A.P. Water Users Associations’ Federation State president and vice-chairman of Nagarjunasagar Left Canal Project Committee Allla Venkata Gopalakrishna Rao described Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as a visionary leader who connected the Godavari with the Krishna through the Pattiseema project to ensure timely irrigation water for lakhs of acres in the Krishna Delta.

Mr. Naidu’s foresight in interlinking the rivers resulted in 263 tmc ft of the Godavari water reaching 13 lakh acres in the Krishna Delta.

“This has not only boosted agriculture and aquaculture, but also contributed ₹50,000 crore to the farmers’ income. Krishna district stood second in India’s GDP contribution during that period,” he said.

With the farmers eagerly awaiting water for the second crop of kharif season, he praised the government for ensuring the timely release of water via Pattiseema. He also acknowledged Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkatarao, who has set up motor systems at a cost of ₹2 crore to help the upland farmers in Gannavaram constituency access the Godavari water.

Areti Hanumayyamma, Deputy Executive Engineer, Polavaram Right Main Canal, Thammashetty Rambabu, President, Mallavalli Water Users Association, Kasukurthi Rangamani, Sarpanch, Rangannagudem, and others were present.
