The Dakshina Kannada police have arrested Naveenchandra (49) of Kabaka, near Puttur, who was accused of harassing a minor girl at Nehru Nagar Junction in Puttur on Tuesday.
The victim’s mother, in her complaint to the Udupi Women’s police station, stated that the accused person misbehaved with her daughter while they were waiting for a bus.
The police registered her complaint for offences under Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 74 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under Section 8 (sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act .
The police identified the accused as Naveenchandra and informed that he was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate, who remanded him to Mangaluru prison for 15 days.
