Odisha tops DMF collections in India with ₹31,324 Crore

Odisha has collected the highest amount of ₹31,324 crore under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), far surpassing all other mineral bearing States, as the initiative marks its 10th year.

With objective to help people and area affected by mining activities, DMF was introduced through Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Amendment Act 2015. The DMF fund is governed by guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojna (PMKKKY).

Established in 646 districts across 23 States, the cumulative collection under DMF has touched massive ₹1,08,219.42 crore. Of which ₹90,608.87 crore has been allocated while ₹57,381.72 crore has been spent.

Ranked number one in India for its reserves of minerals such as iron ore, coal, bauxite, and chromite, Odisha has emerged as a natural leader in DMF fund collections, having mobilized ₹31,324 crore—more than double that of Chhattisgarh, which stands second with ₹15,200 crore.

Other three top States, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have collected ₹13,791 crore, ₹10,833 crore and ₹8,605 crore respectively.

As far as individual districts are concerned, Keonjhar district of Odisha has alone collected DMF fund ₹13,154.67 crore- highest in the country. Sundargarh with ₹9,234.06 crore and Angul with ₹3,932.14 crore have made significant stride in DMF collection.
Odisha has also spent highest amount of fund ₹17,537 crore during past one decade, ahead of ₹11,257 crore by Chhattisgarh and ₹6,679 crore by Jharkhand.

Odisha has given priority to education and drinking water in mining affected by spending ₹4,395.37 crore and ₹3,328.35 crore in two sectors respectively.
