In a dramatic high-seas rescue, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out a rescue operation for the U.S.-flagged sailing vessel ‘Sea Angel’ on Friday (July 11, 2025), which was stranded in rough seas southeast of Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Coast Guard informed that on July 10, 2025, at 11:57 a.m., a distress alert was received by MRCC Port Blair from Sea Angel (16 x 8-metre) yacht carrying two crew members — disabled amid extremely rough conditions with a blown sail and entangled propeller 52 Nm South East of Indira Point, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Acting with urgency, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Port Blair activated the International Safety Net (ISN), alerting all nearby merchant vessels and launching rescue coordination protocols. Subsequently, ICG Ship Rajveer was deployed at 2 p.m. to render immediate assistance, it said.

ICG Ship Rajveer reached the vessel by 5:30 p.m., established communication with the stranded crew, and conducted an on-site assessment.

The ICG further mentioned that despite heavy winds and mechanical disablement, the crew was found safe and in good health. By 6:50 p.m., the vessel was safely taken under tow and escorted to Campbell Bay arriving the harbour at 8 a.m. on July 11, 2025.
