City Police Commissioner A. Arun conduced a probe against Pandiarajan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kolathur, to ascertain whether there was any lapse on the part of the officer while acting on a complaint against the manager of a multinational dairy firm, who ended his life on Wednesday.
The victim Naveen Bollineni, 38, was working as treasury manager with Lactalis, a multinational dairy products corporation, which had acquired Thirumala Milk Products Pvt. Ltd. Recently, the top officers of the firm found that Naveen had swindled over ₹40 crore. Thereafter, the company lodged a complaint with Mr. Pandiarajan, and the case was forwarded to Madhavaram Crime Investigation wing.
The complaint was in the inquiry stage and was not registered, since the police sought more details on bank transactions and other documents.
According to the police, Naveen died by suicide in Britania Nagar, Puzhal, after mailing the reasons for his decision to his sister and the staff of the firm. However, his family alleged that his hands were found tied. The DCP was also on leave.
Police sources said that as per the order of the Commissioner, Joint Commissioner of Police, West, held an inquiry with Mr. Pandiarajan on Friday.
Based on an internal inquiry, it was found that crime inspector Vijay Prabhakar mishandled the case, and he had been sent to Vacancy Reserve category without any posting, police sources said.
