Carcasses of two leopards were found near the railway track at Kattarighatta in Channarayapatna taluk of Karnataka’s Hassan district on Saturday.
The carcasses of a male leopard, aged one and a half years, and a female, aged around three to four years, were noticed by the local people late in the evening. They informed the Forest Department officials.
The officials conducted the mandatory procedures and collected the samples for further examination on Sunday. Deputy Conservator of Forests for Hassan division Sourabh Kumar told The Hindu that the male leopard was suspected to have died three days ago, while the female was thought to have died a day before the carcasses were found.
“The doctors found an internal head injury in the male leopard. The carcasses were found near the railway track. However, we are yet to ascertain the actual cause of death of the male leopard. As far as the female one is concerned, we have collected the samples to ascertain the cause of death,” the officer said.
