The Eluru district police on Sunday conducted surprise checks at Kalaparru toll plaza to prevent the smuggling of ganja and drugs.
Following the directions of Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Pratap Shiva Kishore, the teams led by Nuzvid Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K.V.V.N.V. Prasad and Pedavegi Circle Inspector (CI) Ch. Raja Shekar checked the vehicles.
“Police, along with sniffer dog squads, conducted raids on the transport, goods and public carriers at the toll gate. We also verified the vehicle documents, goods permits and the licenses of the drivers during the drive,” Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore said.
The DSP and other officers conducted awareness on NDPS Act and asked the drivers and the public to stay away from illegal transportation. “The drive will continue to check smuggling of narcotics, ganja and other drugs. Stern action will be taken against those who resort to illegal transportation of ganja,” Mr. Prasad warned.
