Police constable injured in Manipal

Police constable Ritesh from Udupi was injured following an assault by Mohammed Danish, an accused in a case related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, when the latter was taken to the place of incident on Sunday.

The police said Danish, 29, a native of Muradabad, was taken to a place in 80 Badagabettu village, near Manipal, for panchanama where he attacked the constable Ritesh was holding the rope tied to the hands of Danish. The accused Danish hit Ritesh on his chest and pushed him away. As Ritesh fell on the ground, Danish took a big stone and tried to hit him. When police inspector Ramachandra Nayak came to prevent it, Danish tried to hit Nayak with that stone. Nayak then used the lathi to hit Danish on his leg

Both Ritesh and Danish were admitted to the government hospital in Ajjarkadu, Udupi, the police said.
