Tesla, the American electric vehicle company, on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) officially commenced its India operations by opening its first ‘experience centre’ at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. It will be followed by another one in Delhi NCR soon at an unspecified date.
The company announced the launch of Model Y in two variants, starting at ₹59.89 lakh. This model will be imported from Tesla’s factory in China and will be retailed in India.
Before the products are delivered in India, Tesla would set up a robust charging infrastructure in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, company officials said.

While the base model will be delivered from this quarter, the long-range rear wheel drive will be delivered in the next quarter.
Bookings opened
The company has opened bookings for both variants and has received encouraging response from the market, according to company officials.
Model Y has been the best-selling car in 2023 and 2024 and is likely to retain this status this year as well. Officials claimed that the car’s performance and technology sets it apart from other cars in the market.
For the moment, Tesla cars will be registered in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram. The company has hired the required sales and service personnel for supporting the Indian operation.
