Nine students of a girls’ higher secondary school hostel fell ill after taking breakfast served in their hostel on Wednesday.
Officials said 53 students are in the hostel of the girls’ higher secondary school being administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department here.
After the students fell ill, they were taken to Tenkasi Government Hospital where they were treated as in-patients.
Subsequently, Food Safety Department officials visited the hostel to collect the samples of the food – idli and sambar – and the drinking water and sent it for analysis.
Sources in the Tenkasi Government Hospital said one of the students admitted to the hospital reportedly found ‘dog hair’ in the sambar served along with idli and threw up instantly.
“On seeing the girl vomiting profusely while having the breakfast, other eight students also threw up and all of them were admitted to the hospital. All of them are fine now,” said the sources.
