The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert to the coastal Karnataka, as gusty winds are likely to occur in the coastal belt during the 24-hour period starting 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.
The IMD also issued orange alert to the three coastal districts, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, from July 21 to 26.
Dakshina Kannada recorded 28 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. The cumulative rainfall recorded till date in the district since January 1 was at 2,911 mm, as against the normal rainfall of 1,930 mm during the period.
Schools and Pre-University colleges remained closed on Saturday in Mangaluru, Bantwal, and Ullal taluks.
The Mangaluru taluk recorded the maximum rainfall of 55.4 mm, followed by Ullal with 48.1 mm, Bantwal with 43.1 mm, Puttur 32.6 mm, Sullia 31 mm, Mulki 28.5, Kadaba 26.6 mm, Moodbidri 21.9 mm, and Belthangady 8.5 mm.
The District Disaster Management Authority said 22 electricity poles and 1.1-km-long power supply lines were damaged in the district in 24 hours.
Rainfall in Udupi
The Udupi district received 28.4 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period. Kaup taluk recorded the maximum of 50.5 mm rainfall, followed by 37.3 mm in Udupi, 32.7 mm in Hebri, 30.6 mm in Karkala, 29.1 mm in Byndoor, 26.4 mm in Brahmavar, and 16.8 mm in Kundapura taluks. Three houses in Kapu taluk and one house in Kundapura taluk suffered minor damages, said a report by the Udupi district administration.
