Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Monday (July 21) asserted that the arrest of Rajampeta MP P.V. Midhun Reddy was based on ‘concrete evidence’ linked to the alleged liquor scam. She refuted the charges of ‘political oppression’ in the case, and wanted the YSR Congress Party leaders to approach the courts if they had any objections.
Addressing a press conference at Madakasira of Sri Sathya Sai district, the Minister said that the NDA government in the State was against making illegal arrests. “Our government acts only after gathering substantial evidence. Even courts do not grant remand unless prima facie material is placed before them,” Ms. Anitha said.
The Home Minister rejected the YSRCP’s claims that the fire incident at the Madanapalle sub-collector’s office last year had been buried for want of evidence. She clarified that the investigation is still active. “It is not a closed case. All facts will be brought to light in the coming days,” she said.
In strongly-worded statement, Ms Anitha termed YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy “a criminal in the garb of a politician”. She said that the YSRCP regime had derailed the State’s growth during its tenure.
