Work to construct a new building for cancer care is in progress at the Government Royapettah Hospital.

On Monday, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inspected the construction work. The two-storey building was being constructed at a total cost of â‚č10.27 crore, with funds to the tune of â‚č3.42 crore generated through registrations for the Kalaignar Memorial International Marathon 2023 and â‚č6.85 crore as government contribution under “Namakku Namme Thittam”, according to a press release.

Spread over 62,700 sq. feet, the building would have a four-wheeler parking lot and radio diagnosis unit on the ground floor, while the outpatient unit would be on the first floor and operation theatres, pre-operative ward, recovery ward, intensive care unit would be on the second floor.

In addition, construction works at a total cost of â‚č40.50 crore for various additional medical buildings are in progress. Hospital superintendent Aysha Shaheen and officials of the Public Works Department were present, the release said.
