Police recovered the body of a 38-year-old woman from inside a locked house in Kolathur and launched an investigation to ascertain whether she was murdered.
Police identified the body of Saraswathi, 38, of Virudhachalam. She married Ganeshamurthi, a Sri Lankan refugee who lived in Gummidipoondi camp, 16 years ago. The couple had two children. Recently, she and her two children moved to a rented house in Kolathur while Ganeshamurthi remained in Gummidipoondi. Leaving the children with her husband, she came back alone to the rented house in Kolathur on Friday. Since then, there was no response from her to calls from her husband. He asked his friends to check on her. In the meantime, neighbours alerted the police after bad odour from the house.
Upon receipt of information, police personnel in Kolathur came to the spot and broke the lock of the house. They recovered the body and sent it to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem. A mobile phone, a two-wheeler and a gold ornament were missing from the house. Police launched an investigation into the death of a woman.
