The police have registered three separate cases in Kasaragod district of Kerala against individuals who allegedly led a hate campaign on social media targeting the late former Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan.
The cases booked under the non-bailable sections related to hate speech were registered at Bekal, Kumbala and Nileswaram police stations.
Action has been taken against Abdullah Kunhi under the jurisdiction of the Kumbala police, Fayaz Thotty under the Vehicle Station limits and Rashid Moidu in the Nileswaram station area.
According to the police, the accused deliberately disseminated defamatory content aimed at insulting Achuthanandan, potentially inciting societal hatred and sparking communal discord.
Both Abdul Kunhi and Rashid Moidu are reported to have shared ‘inflammatory’ content on Facebook and furthered the alleged hate campaign via WhatsApp statuses, the police added.
