The mortal remains of former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan reached his Velikkakathu house at Paravur in Alappuzha on Wednesday afternoon (July 23, 2024). Thousands of people turned up on the premises to see him for the last time. His body was taken inside the house and later placed inside the compound for people to pay their respects.
The cortege took more than 22 hours to cover a distance of around 150 km from Thiruvananthapuram to Paravur. At Velikkakathu, there was an outpouring of love and respect for the mass leader who cared deeply for the people. Many had arrived at the house as early as Tuesday evening (July 22, 2025), including those from distant places.
Earlier, despite the nightfall, hundreds waited along the roadsides to catch a glimpse of their beloved leader and pay their respects. After entering Alappuzha district, the cortege passed through Kareelakulangara, Nagiarkulangara, Haripad, Thottappally and T.D. Medical College junction before reaching his home.

After his home, the body will be kept at CPI(M) district committee office. It will then be moved to Recreation Ground around where his mortal remains will be kept for public viewing.
The funeral of Achuthanandan will be held with full State honours at Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs’ Memorial at Valiya Chudukkad in the evening. He will be laid to rest close to the final resting places of legendary communist figures, including P. Krishna Pillai, T.V. Thomas, N. Sreedharan, P.K. Chandranandan, and K.R. Gouri.
