The National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, began its orientation programme for BTech students of the 2025–2029 batch on its campus on Tuesday.

The programme will continue till August 31, welcoming a total of 1,080 students, including 227 female and 853 male students.

Speaking on the occasion, director of the institute B. Ravi stressed the importance of holistic development, urging students to cultivate strength across four key dimensions: physical, mental, social, and spiritual. He encouraged them to build physical endurance, sharpen their thinking through both analytical and creative approaches, and nurture meaningful relationships.

The director spoke about the value of empathy, intuition, and ethical grounding. He asked students “to be good, be positive, and be useful.”

Deans and other authorities of the institute gave presentations on the NIT-K’s academic structure, research opportunities, campus facilities, and student life.

The programme is designed to support a smooth transition for new students into the institute’s academic and cultural environment, a release from the institute said.
