The BJP OBC Morcha has appealed to the State BC Commission to impress upon the government to ensure that the buildings housing the BC hostels have basic amenities, including drinking water facility, proper toilets and hygienic mess, considering the rising number of cases of students falling ill in the last few days.

After submitting a memorandum submitted to the Commission chairman Niranjan on Wednesday listing out the issues dogging the hostels resulting in as many as 10 students falling ill in various places across the State, OBC morcha president Anand Goud called for strict action be taken against officials found to be lax in their functioning in his interaction with the media at the State party office.

The BC Commission has been requested to see that parents’ committees should be formed in every hostel considering the lack of proper regulatory or monitoring mechanism from the officials concerned to ensure the children are provided with the right ambience to study.

The government should first start with proper selection of buildings being chosen for hostels as most of them do not seem to be having basic facilities, including a water connection or security for students. About 70% BC residential schools do not have water facility and other basic amenities, including lack of doors to bathrooms, he charged.

Mr. Goud wanted top district officials, including collectors, to review the facilities at least every fortnight and depute top officials to check on the students at regular intervals. He also accused the police of trying to obstruct partymen when they were trying to ascertain the state of hostels in various places across Telangana.
