Youth goes missing after vehicle falls into river in Chikkamagaluru; his mother dies on learning about it

A youth went missing after the pickup vehicle he drove fell into the swollen Bhadra River near Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday (July 24, 2025). His mother reportedly took her own life on hearing about the incident.

Shamanth, 23, of Ganapathikatte, went missing as his vehicle fell into the river after hitting an electric pole near Kolumage near Kalasa on Thursday evening. He was on the way to pick up plantation workers. The vehicle lost balance while he was negotiating a narrow curve amid the rains.

Even as efforts to trace him and the vehicle were on, his mother was found dead near Kolamage. It is suspected that she took her own life on being informed of her son’s accident.

The Fire and Emergency Services staff and the police are looking for him.
