Arumbavur Big Lake, one of the biggest irrigation tanks in Perambalur district, would soon be renovated by the Water Resources Department (WRD).

Situated in Arumbavur village at Veppanthattai taluk in the district, the tank has a storage capacity of 52 million cubic feet of water. Spread over about 89.22 hectares, it has an ayacut of about 565 acres. The tank gets inflows from River Kallar flowing from Pachamalai hills. The surplus flows from Arumbavur big lake flows into Arumbavur small lake.

The WRD has recently floated a tender for rehabilitation of the big lake at an estimated cost of ₹3.29 crore. The work is expected to be completed within 18 montths from the date of award of the contract.

The department has also floated tenders for rehabilitation of Suriyur Periyakulam in Suriyur village in Tiruchi district, and standardisation and rehabilitation of Koramadai tank in Erudhikonpatti in Kadavur taluk in Karur district. While the Suriyur Periyakulam is to be renovated at an estimated cost of ₹96 lakh, the Koramadai tank would rehabilitated at an estimate of ₹1.51 crore.

Both the works are expected to be completed within 12 months. However, WRD sources said efforts would be made to complete the works well ahead of the scheduled period.
