The 166th Income Tax Day was celebrated on Thursday by the IT Department, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry in Chennai. Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation & Former Chief Scientist, World Health Organisation, presided over the function as the Chief Guest in the presence of Preeti Garg, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.Â
Ms. Swaminathan spoke about the importance of tax revenues in nation building. She laid emphasis on the contribution of women in various organisations. She also presented the newly-instituted award – ‘Principal CCIT Certificate for Best Taxpayer Services’ – to the selected employees of the IT Department in recognition of outstanding commitment, dedication, exemplary efforts in resolving public grievances. It was highlighted that during the financial year 2024-25, about 30,000 grievances were redressed in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
