The armed military conflict between Thailand and Cambodia entered a second day, with troops using rockets and artillery to shell targets along their contested border as the US joined other nations in calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Thailand reported 14 deaths, including one soldier, in what is now the deadliest clash between the two countries in over a decade. More than two dozen others were injured, some critically. Cambodia has yet to release official casualty figures.
The latest escalation began on Thursday (July 24, 2025), with Thailand launching airstrikes on Cambodian military positions using F-16 fighter jets, while Cambodia responded by targeting civilian areas inside Thailand.
The renewed violence follows months of tense border standoffs and has brought Thailand’s ruling coalition government to the edge of collapse.
