A special police team arrested three men on Thursday (July 24, 2025) and recovered ₹9.60 lakh robbed from a lorry driver at Vikravandi in Villupuram district.
The arrested men have been identified as Praveen Koyilraj (32) of Kalakkad in Tirunelveli district, Muthukumar and Sathish of Chennai.
Police said Sapthagiri (32) was driving the lorry from Chennai to Namakkal to collect a consignment of eggs on Wednesday night. He parked the lorry on a service road at Vikravandi to relieve himself when three persons who followed the vehicle on an SUV sprayed chilli powder on his face and fled with ₹10.40 lakh in cash.
Following a complaint by the lorry driver, the police analysed the CCTV footage at the Vikravandi toll plaza and traced the accused to Chennai. Investigations by the police revealed Praveen, who was earlier employed as a driver with a company in Chennai, had planned the robbery.
The police arrested the trio and recovered ₹9.60 lakh and an SUV from their possession. They were produced before a local court and remanded in custody.
