Varex Imaging Manufacturing India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Varex Imaging Corporation (USA), has launched its second advanced manufacturing facility at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

The new facility houses two advanced manufacturing lines — India’s first manufacturing line for Cesium Iodide (CsI)— a critical material used to enhance digital X-ray image quality while reducing radiation exposure, and another line for medical-grade glass tubes, essential to X-ray and CT imaging systems. These technologies are being localised in India for the first time, bringing the full imaging hardware value chain under one roof.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and Founder-CEO of AMTZ called the development, “A strategic move that not only elevates India’s manufacturing capabilities in medical imaging but also validates AMTZ’s role as a global MedTech innovation hub.”

According to a press statement from AMTZ, this strategic expansion reinforces Varex’s long-term commitment to India’s MedTech sector, and also supports the country’s ambition to become a global hub for imaging technology and innovation.

The ground breaking ceremony was attended by Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Andrew Hartman, Global Senior Vice President – Detectors, Varex Imaging Corporation and Vivek Phalle, Senior MD and Country Head, Varex Imaging India.
