A class VIII student of a government school near Sulur in Coimbatore was reportedly left in the lurch following an alleged quarrel between her parents.

The student’s plight came to light when she refused to go home after school hours on Friday.

After learning about the girl’s predicament, her teachers tried in vain to contact the Childline and the police control room. They then sought the help of a public welfare activist, who guided them to approach the Sulur police station. Subsequently the police prevailed upon the Childline authorities to take further steps. The issue was also taken to the knowledge of District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, who instructed the District Child Protection Officer to take necessary action. The officials reached out to the girl’s mother who had gone to Madurai following the quarrel.

Official sources confirmed late Friday night that the girl’s mother was on her way back to Coimbatore to take custody of daughter.
