The Tamil Nadu police have rejected permission for a 100-day padayatra announced by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss, following a petition from his father and party founder S. Ramadoss, police sources said on Friday (July 25, 2025).
However, before the decision of the police became known, Dr. Anbumani on Friday evening launched the padayatra near Thiruporur, and also addressed a public meeting.
Stating that the padayatra did not have the consent and approval of “party founder and president” Ramadoss, the Director-General of Police, in a communication to all Commissioners/Superintendents of Police of cities/districts, conveyed the rejection of permission for holding the padayatra at any point of time without the written consent or authorisation of the “founder/president” of the PMK.
While Dr. Anbumani claimed to be the elected party president, his father recently said he had assumed that role, and his son was designated “working president”.
Dr. Ramadoss, who had restrained his son from using his surname, brought to the notice of the police that the party cadre and leaders were in a state of confusion over the unilateral act of Dr. Anbumani, “which may result in clash of both the groups and culminate in a law and order problem by causing injury to the common people and party cadre”, the communication said.
The DGP directed senior police officers to take steps to prevent the padayatra, the sources said.
