The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Chennai, is all set to add more healthcare facilities for the welfare of its insured persons.

At present, there are 11 ESIC hospitals in the State. Three run by the ESIC – ESIC Medical College and Hospital at K.K. Nagar in Chennai, and two 100-bed ESIC Hospitals at Tirunelveli and Tiruppur. 

The remaining eight ESIC facilities are run by the State government – Salem, Hosur, Tiruchi, and Vellore (50 beds each); Sivakasi (100), Madurai (200), Coimbatore (506), and Ayanavaram (616).

Apart from these facilities, there are 241 ESIC dispensaries in the State, officials said.

100-bed facilities

A. Venu Gopal, Regional Director, ESIC, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, recently said: “The two ESIC Hospitals at Sriperumbudur and Thoothukudi are likely to be ready by the end of this year. More hospitals are in the pipeline, for which the land acquisition process has been initiated. These will have 100-bed facilities, and will come up at Erode, Dindigul, Chengalpattu and Nagercoil.”

Tamil Nadu has the second largest number of insured persons under ESIC in the country.
