Contract worker electrocuted while putting up electric poles under Union Government scheme

Vijay Pal Singh, 30, of Rajasthan died of electrocution during installation of electric posts at Chellappanpet near here on Tuesday.

According to the police, the accident took place on July 29 afternoon while the deceased was installing the electric posts along with his colleagues at Chellappanpet. The project, implemented under a Union Government scheme, is being executed by a Rajasthan-based contractor.

Vijay was electrocuted after the pole came into contact with the live overhead cable passing through the project site. Vijay’s body was moved to the Thanajvur Medical College Hospital for postmortem by the Vallam police, who have registered a case and are investigating.
