Student who burgled uncle’s house to fund trip to Goa arrested

The Kothanur police cracked a theft case and arrested a B Com student and her three friends for allegedly stealing gold valuables worth ₹65 lakh from her uncle’s house to fund their Goa trip and fund the investment for her male friend in May this year.

The accused, Sachitha, was staying in her uncle’s house to pursue her studies and allegedly stole the valuables in May to give it to her male friend and classmate, identified as Yeshwanth.

The duo was studying in a private college pursuing bachelor of commerce . After receiving the valuables, Yeshwanth allegedly gave them to his friends Tanush and Ramprakash to dispose them of and get the money.

The accused allegedly melted some of the gold valuables and sold it to a party in Goa, and Yeshwanth invested a part of the money for his future plans. The theft came to light in June when Srinivas, owner of the house, on June 9 , noticed the valuables missing and suspecting the role of domestic help filed a complaint.

The police, based on the complaint, questioned the domestic help before confronting Sachitha. A detailed questioning allegedly led her to confess . Based on the confession, the police arrested Yeshwanth and two of his friends and recovered the valuables.

The prime accused have ben produced before the court and granted bail while the two others have been remanded to judicial custody.
