Puttur tahsildar S.B. Kudalagi has stayed away from office since the Lokayukta police arrested a case worker in his office on August 28 on charges of receiving bribe.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan told The Hindu on Sunday that he (the Deputy Commissioner) has not received any letter from the tahsildar on going on leave.
The police are yet to submit a report to Mr. Darshan about the arrest of the case worker.
The police have not communicated anything, whether there was any involvement of Mr. Kudalagi in the case, Mr. Darshan said.
In a complaint to the Lokayukta police, the complainant said he had visited the tahsildar office to enquire about the status of the application seeking no objection certificate for selling land granted to his uncle under the ‘Akrama Sakrama’ scheme.
Case worker Sunil told the complainant that he (the case worker) needed to pay ₹10,000 to tahsildar, and a ‘small’ amount to him as well.
The Lokyukta police registered his complaint against Sunil and Kudalagi. On August 28, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Gaana P. Kumar caught Sunil while reportedly accepting a bribe of ₹12,000.
Tahsildar Kudalagi has been at large since that day, the Lokayukta police said in a press release.
