The Cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned ₹10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) for the parents of Midhun M., a Class VIII student of High School for Boys, Thevalakkara, Kollam, who died from electrocution at the school two weeks ago.
The General Education department had announced financial assistance of ₹3 lakh for Midhun’s family from the public deposit account of the Director of General Education.
Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) had announced ex gratia of ₹10 lakh in two instalments.
Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty had announced that the Thevalakkara school management would provide the family a financial assistance of ₹10 lakh. The Kerala School Teachers’ Association (KSTA) too would hand over a similar amount to them.
A house will be built for Midhun’s family through the Scouts and Guides.
Midhun was electrocuted after coming into contact with a low-lying live electric line while trying to retrieve a slipper that had fallen onto the roof of a bicycle shed on the school campus.
