Red Sanders Special (RSS) Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court on Thursday (July 31) sentenced 10 smugglers to five years imprisonment for smuggling red sanders along with a fine of ₹6 lakh to each person.
As per the RSS ADJ Court order, the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task force (RSASTF) officials have arrested the 10 smugglers while they were smuggling red sanders logs in the forest area of Perumallapalle beat in TN Palem section within Sri Venkateswara National Park (SVNP) division.
They were identified as — C. Viswanathan, D. Sethu, D. Ramesh, M. Sampath, V. Ratnam, M. Boochayan, J. Kumar, C. Prabhu, M. Suresh and C. Ramar from Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts of Tamil Nadu.
Non-bailable warrant was issued against C. Prabhu, while others were handed over to the authorities of Nellore Central Prison. Taskforce SP P. Srinivas the judgement must be considered as a warning to criminals who cut down and smuggle red sandalwood trees in Seshachalam Reserve Forest.
