A 13-year-old girl who had been forcibly married to a 40-year-old man was rescued by the Nandigama police on Wednesday, July 30 and five individuals were booked.

According to Nandigama Inspector P. Prasad, the girl, a Class 8 student, was married to Srinivas Goud, a resident of Chevella, on May 30 this year. The marriage, allegedly arranged by a couple and facilitated by a local priest, went ahead despite the girl’s age.

Following a tip-off, police teams reached her residence and rescued her. A case has been registered against five individuals, including Goud, the girl’s mother Swarna, marriage brokers Pentaiah and his wife Yadamma, and the priest, Anjaneyulu, who solemnised the wedding. “All of them have been booked under relevant sections, and further investigation is ongoing. More names may surface as we proceed,” said Inspector Prasad.
