Rapper Vedan moves Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in rape case

Malayalam rapper and song writer Hirandas Murali, known popularly as Vedan, approached the Kerala High Court on Friday (August 1, 2025) seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a rape case the Thrikkakara police registered against him on Thursday (July 31, 2025).

The case was registered after a young woman doctor approached the Kochi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) with a complaint that Vedan sexually assaulted her in Kochi and Kozhikode on multiple occasions from 2021 to 2023 on the “assurance” of marriage.

She said she chose to register the complaint after she came to know of another woman who had a similar experience with Vedan.

The High Court is expected to consider Vedan’s bail plea post noon on Friday.
