The Fast-Track Mahila Court in Erode on Thursday (July 31, 2025) sentenced a 24-year-old man to 20 years of imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2020.
According to the prosecution, V. Manikandan befriended the girl and kidnapped her on June 1, 2020. Her parents lodged a complaint with the Karungalpalayam police, who traced and rescued her. The police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and for kidnapping and arrested Manikandan.
After the trial, Judge C. Sornakumar sentenced Manikandan to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault and three years for kidnapping. The sentences will run concurrently. A fine of ₹15,000 was also imposed. He was later lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
