All India Congress Committee joint secretary and Andhra Pradesh in-charge Palak Verma said the development of Andhra Pradesh would be possible only when the Congress Party returned to power in the State as well as at the Centre.

She said the assurance on Special Category Status (SCS) would become a reality only when the Congress was voted to power. Ms. Verma who hails from Gujarat was made in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs recently. Speaking to The Hindu in Vizianagaram, she said the party’s ground level strength remained intact and it was evident with her recent tour in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam.

NDA leaders slam former Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy over his remarks; condemn vindictive politics allegations

“Both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led NDA and YSRCP governments ignored SCS in the last 11 years although it was assured in Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act. The BJP led NDA at the Centre ignored it completely as there is no strong pressure from the TDP, the YSRCP and other parties for its implementation. But the Congress Party would implement it as it had incorporated SCS issue in A.P. Reorganization Act,” she added.

Ms. Verma said the people had understood large scale manipulation in voters’ list across India and the Election Commission of India’s biased approach over the issue. “The Congress and India Bloc parties had done extremely well in 2024 general elections. The NDA which could not digest the comeback of the Congress and its alliance parties is trying its level best to register fake voters in Bihar and other States. The people of Bihar, Gujarat others States heading for elections will teach a lesson to the BJP and its political partners in spite of malpractices in preparation of voters’ lists.
