Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao has written to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, demanding immediate intervention to stop encroachments on a historically significant British cemetery in Narsipatnam, Anakapalli district.

In his letter to the Chief Minister on Friday (August 1), Mr. Srinivasa Rao highlighted that 46 cents in survey No. 9 under Narsipatnam Municipality — a site symbolically linked to the freedom struggle led by Alluri Sitarama Raju — is being encroached upon by private individuals constructing permanent structures without permissions.

Of the total land, 27 cents have already been encroached, and construction is under way on the remaining 19 cents.

“This is not just a burial ground but a monument of historical importance. Following the death of British policemen during the Manyam rebellion, the then Collector Rutherford had them buried here, marking the legacy of Alluri’s anti-colonial movement,” he said and slammed municipal and revenue officials for failing to act.

The CPIM leader urged the government to take action against the encroachers, remove all illegal structures and develop the site into a heritage park. “Transform this site into a public memorial reflecting the spirit of resistance,” he said.
