Woman arrested in Kothamangalam for alleged poisoning of her male friend

The police arrested a 30-year-old woman of Chelad near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam on Friday (August 1) for the alleged poisoning of a 38-year-old native of Mathirappilly, Kothamangalam.

The victim, identified as Ansil, died at a private hospital in Aluva on Thursday night (July 31). He had reportedly been in a relationship with the accused, which later turned sour. According to the Kothamangalam police, the woman had agreed to meet him on Tuesday (July 29) at her house. The police suspect that he was forced to consume weedicide.

He reportedly experienced uneasiness on Wednesday morning (July 30) and called his relatives for help. The woman allegedly informed his parents that he had tried to end his life by consuming poison. The victim reportedly told one of his relatives that the accused had poisoned him.

The police said a bottle containing suspected weedicide was recovered from the woman’s house.

The victim’s body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem at the Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam. The police recorded the arrest of woman on Friday evening under Section 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
