₹1.16 crore-worth cash, gold seized from two persons at Madurai Railway Junction

Railway Protection Force personnel on Friday seized ₹1.16 crore-worth cash and gold from two youth at Madurai Railway Junction and handed them over to officials of Income Tax Department.

According to sources, a team of RPF personnel led by Assistant Sub-Inspector C. Ramakrishnan during their routine patrol noticed two youngsters moving in a suspicious manner near the parcel office and took them for an enquiry.

It was revealed that Tanmay Haridas Salunke, 21, of Maharashtra who was a resident in Kovilpatti, was in possession of a bag in which he had bundles of ₹500 currency notes amounting to ₹72 lakh.

The other person was identified as T. Santhanaraj, 29, of Kovilpatti. He was found to be in possession of ₹3.60 lakh cash, over 450 grams of gold ornaments, worth ₹41.22 lakh and some silver ornaments.

The duo along with the valuables were handed over to the Deputy Director of Income Tax Department for further investigation.
