Conservancy worker dies as car hits her near Sithalapakkam

A 30-year-old woman sanitation worker with the Tambaram Corporation, died without responding to treatment at a government hospital on Thursday after she was hit by a car on Sunday evening at Sithalapakkam near Tambaram.

The victim has been identified as Rani, 30 of Sithalapakkam. She and her husband were working as conservancy workers on contractual basis in Tambaram Corporation. In the late hours of Sunday, Rani along with others were doing conservancy works on Tambaram- Velachery High Road. Then Rani was standing on the roadside and a car which was speeding from Medavakkam towards Tambaram hit her. In the impact, she was critically injured. She was rushed to Government Chromepet Hospital and later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital.

On Friday, she succumbed to injuries at the hospital without responding to the treatment. Traffic Investigation Police arrested the driver of the car and interrogated.
